On 16. December 2012, Kanchana Foundation organized a free dental check up and treatment camp for the students and parents of the adopted Government higher primary school, Alanthaya. The program began at 9:30am, inaugurated by the Chief guest - senior dentist Dr. Prabhakar (Bonanthaya Hospital, Puttur) and Co-founder of the Kanchana foundation - Mr. Sundara Bhat Kanchana by lighting the lamp and an inaugural song by the students. Dr. Aruna Bhat Kanchana then gave an awareness talk on the importance of dental health and dental hygiene measures. The other participating dentists were Dr. Ashith M.V (Orthodontist - Yenapoya dental college, Mangalore), Dr. Shwetha Ashith (Advik multi speciality dental clinic, Uppinangady), Dr. Asha (Asha dental clinic, Puttur). Mr. Adarsha Kanchana founder of Kanchana Foundation was instrumental in organising the whole camp.

The camp went on in full swing with active participation from the dentists, students and their parents. The highlights of the camp were oral prophylaxis and simple dental extractions. Distribution of medicines, toothbrushes, toothpastes and individual oral hygiene advice motivated the patients.

The camp was a huge success, attended by over 200 stundents and locals of the village. This was the first step taken by the Foundation in creating oral hygiene awareness among rural population. We look forward to organize more of such health camps in the future and request you to support us in this noble endeavor.
