Kanchana Foundation adopts a rural school in India
Kanchana Foundation , established in January 2010, is setup in a small city Puttur of southern Indian state of Karnataka.
Promoting education in rural areas, targeting the underprivileged class has always been the main objective of the Kanchana Foundation and the first step was taken through the initiative- 'Project Vidyā' by adopting a government school in the remote village of Alanthaya.
The school was chosen among the other government schools by considering the current state of development. The school is situated in one of the remote areas of Puttur. The school has about 50% of the children originate from below poverty line families (less than $300 income per year).
About 40% of the children belong to scheduled caste and scheduled tribe. A series of developmental programmes are planned to empower the school.
